The New Mexico Economic Development Department (EDD) is kicking off 2025 with a significant investment in workforce development. In January and February alone, approximately $5.4 million in job training awards were approved through EDD’s flagship Job Training Incentive Program (JTIP). These funds will support up to 170 new trainees and interns, as well as 51 current employees, bolstering job growth and economic expansion in the New Mexico Borderplex region.
Investing in Local Talent
“JTIP encourages businesses to grow and hire locally,” said Cabinet Secretary-Designate Rob Black. “It’s especially exciting to see so many companies utilizing JTIP’s Step Up program, signaling a strong commitment to promoting from within and expanding their workforce with local talent.”
Three companies that received JTIP awards this cycle exemplify the diverse industries thriving in New Mexico:

How JTIP Works
JTIP is a reimbursement program that helps businesses offset the cost of training new employees. Companies that qualify receive funding to train workers and are reimbursed after the training is successfully completed. The program covers at least 50% of training costs, with higher reimbursements available for companies hiring in rural areas, recent New Mexico college graduates, veterans, and other qualifying groups.
A Bright Future for New Mexico’s Workforce
The first round of JTIP awards in 2025 reflects the state’s commitment to workforce development and economic growth. By supporting businesses across various industries, New Mexico is fostering a skilled workforce, driving job creation, and strengthening local communities.
For businesses looking to expand and hire in New Mexico, JTIP offers an invaluable opportunity to invest in their workforce while benefiting from financial support. As companies continue to take advantage of this program, the state’s economy is poised for a strong and sustainable future.
