Welcome to MVEDA’s Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page. It should answer some of the most frequently asked questions about our organization, its services and our market.

1. What is the Borderplex?
The “Borderplex” is a bi-national metro area of more than 2.7 million people, encompassing three states and two nations — offering a globally competitive business environment. It is made up of the cities of El Paso, Texas; Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico; and Las Cruces and Doña Ana County, New Mexico. The Mesilla Valley Economic Development Alliance (MVEDA) represents the New Mexico portion of the Borderplex for companies considering expansion into the region.

2. What is MVEDA and how is it funded?
MVEDA is a 501(c3) public/private economic development partnership that provides local businesses and new industries considering relocating and expanding into Doña Ana County with the information, tools and resources they need to succeed. It contracts with the City of Las Cruces and Doña Ana County to provide economic development services and is funded by many of the top Las Cruces businesses as well as many other regional businesses and organizations in all sectors of the economy. Our Partners provide the funding necessary for us to continue to grow the wealth of Doña Ana County by creating new job opportunities for its residents.

3. What is MVEDA’s mission and service territory?
MVEDA’s mission is “Grow the wealth of Doña Ana County through the creation of economic-based job opportunities for its residents.” MVEDA’s service territory is Doña Ana County (New Mexico Borderplex) which is located in south-central New Mexico and borders the Mexican State of Chihuahua.  Doña Ana County is equidistant between the Ports of Long Beach and Houston on Interstate 10.

4. What are economic base jobs?
Economic base jobs or basic jobs are jobs created by industries that are exporting goods and services from the region and bringing wealth from the outside into the region.  MVEDA has identified seven target economic base industries to focus its efforts based on our regional assets.

MVEDA does not actively pursue retail and hospitality industries as these are derivatives to economic base industry attraction.

5. What services does MVEDA provide?
MVEDA is committed to providing premium site selection and business expansion services to all qualified economic base employers seeking our assistance. We’ll help you with:

  • Finding the right location by initiating real estate searches using our commercial real estate search engine or though our extensive network of regional brokers and agents;
  • Finding the right employees using our extensive network of state, local and university agencies and staffing agencies or working with the region’s customized training programs to develop the skilled labor force you need for your expansion;
  • Finding the right incentives and financing, evaluating the state and local incentives available and connecting you with a statewide network of financing agencies;
  • Finding the right information using our large library of socio-economic data or performing customized research based on your specific needs; and
  • Meeting the right people through our vast network of federal, state and local officials, as well as leading real estate and business professionals tailored to meet your needs.

6. Does MVEDA charge for its services?
MVEDA does not charge for any of its basic services.  Certain specialized reports and data requests may incur nominal charges which will be agreed upon with the client before work is started.  As an example, there are a wide variety of specialized reports available from Esri Business Analyst which may require additional costs.

7. How successful is MVEDA?
Over the past three years, MVEDA has assisted in the creation of over 1,500 economic base jobs, creating $48.9M in new annual payroll and $568.9M in new capital investment.  Copies of our annual reports are linked from the Popular Downloads page.

8. What type of information does MVEDA maintain?
MVEDA’s Data Center is a large library of socio-economic data and quality of life factors.  MVEDA offers a 28-page Regional Profile which is a summary of our most requested information in a printable format.  MVEDA also produces a Business Resource Guide, a comprehensive directory of a wide variety of business support services available in the New Mexico Borderplex. It is designed to assist new and existing businesses in accessing the information needed to make sound business decisions.
