In November and December of 2023, two companies in the New Mexico Borderplex region secured funding through the Job Training Incentive Program (JTIP) of the New Mexico Economic Development Department, as announced by Acting Cabinet Secretary Jon Clark.

These companies, situated in Las Cruces and Sunland Park throughout the Borderplex, are at the forefront of introducing advanced technology and well-compensated employment opportunities to their communities. They have the potential to train up to 395 workers.

The JTIP program allocates funds to approved companies on a reimbursement basis, disbursed after the completion of all training activities. Businesses are required to hire employees and utilize the training grants within a specified timeframe; otherwise, the award is forfeited and returned to the Economic Development Department (EDD) for future JTIP utilization. This initiative has played a crucial role in attracting, retaining, and expanding businesses in New Mexico, while also encouraging them to hire and train local individuals for key positions.

The awards granted in November and December contribute to a total of 44 companies assisted in 11 counties throughout the calendar year 2023. Depending on the job market and hiring pace, JTIP funding has the potential to support up to 1,273 job trainees.

Acting EDD Secretary Clark expressed, “In the past year, the JTIP program has reached all corners of New Mexico. These grants provide businesses with the opportunity to train workers for higher-paying jobs and expand their workforce with new hires. JTIP is helping to enhance economic security for New Mexico families.”

Among the recipients, Stampede Meat, Inc., located in Sunland Park, will train 62 individuals at an average wage of $14.70, receiving a total award of $389,514. Stampede Meat Inc. specializes in providing portion-controlled protein solutions, offering seasoned and prepared value-added meats, portion cuts, and various fully cooked meat products.

Another awardee is Higher Cultures LLC in Las Cruces, training 7 individuals at an average wage of $19.25, with a total award of $44,370. Higher Cultures focuses on cannabis processing in its New Mexico operations, collaborating closely with established cultivators to obtain quality throughput material, which is transformed into high-quality cannabis oil for use in various wholesale and retail products.
